Rules & Etiquette

About Us | Rules & Etiquette

A safe training environment begins with a set of rules and well-understood etiquette to protect all Brazilian Jiu Jitsu practitioners and to allow an enjoyable training environment. Some of these rules are understood by students that have trained for any considerable amount of time. However, if you’re new or need a refresher, we’ve listed them here for your review.

Best Practices

A general list of best practices to keep in mind for the health and safety of yourself and others.

Self-Care & Personal Hygiene

Clean Athletes

  • Although a shower or bath directly before class is not required, it is highly recommended if possible. Please ensure your hair, hands, feet are washed and groomed regularly.

Fresh Breath

  • We understand you will not always have the opportunity to brush your teeth directly before classes. Please keep items to freshen your breath readily available for circumstances of strong odors such as onion breath, coffee breath or smokers’ breath (if you can taste your breath your partners can smell it). Oral hygiene is pivotally important for the health and wellness of yourself and others.

Hair, Nails, & Skin

  • Please keep in mind products used for hair, skin, and nails can transfer from one athlete to another, or from one athlete to the mat and wall surfaces. Please use your discretion when training with wounds (such as abrasions, rashes, and striations) for keeping minimal to no wound contact with others.

Class Schedule

Stay up to date on class times! We are continually adding new classes with an emphasis on Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Judo, and Wrestling. However, we continually work with our students to add classes that enhance their training results. Contact us if you have any questions about any of our classes.

Shoes & Belongings

  • A clean pair of shoes to slip on and off are required to keep mat-side. No shoes are allowed on the mats, and athletes are required to wear shoes off the mats.
  • There are designated areas to keep gym bags, purses, and personal belongings.
  • We ask items kept mat side be kept to a minimum. This is high traffic area. Please help us reduce clutter and minimize risk of tripping hazards.
